that was pretty much my thoughts on the matter – i don’t have alot of music theory to back this up, but i’m pretty sure it’s one of those 1,3,7 1,4,5 progressions that’s everywhere in rock n roll.

Anyone with actual theory knowledge care to chime in?

While they are undeniable similar, that riff is about as generic as they get; I’m sure you could find fifty songs that sound similar to it.
